From Wisdom of the Hands
Wednesday,...Hi Sebastian

From Wisdom of the Hands

Wednesday, July 27, 2016
today in the woodshop.

Course of Study, Manual Arts Training Department, Chicago Public Schools, 1899-1900,

https://archive.org/details/courseofstudyman00chicrich

pg 6-7 identify for me, a crucial element in nurturing imagination in the process of learning the making beauty in the realm of woodworking: drawing.

While this school manual is typical in being excessively programmatic, students being compelled to attend, and that era of American life being at the mid-point of the transition from agrarian citizenship to conformist urban fashion, this one point is excellent.

Would be fun to visit the Clear Spring School.

He mentions he teaches at Marc Adams, which I visited once, and it kind of turned me off in it's custom of presenting (really ugly) plaques to students identifying them as Master Craftsmen, or something. Don't know if they still do that. The visiting teachers are pretty good though. John Burt, for one.

Another thing to include in the program: growing trees.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10904549664984991709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516147879960334586.post-65826423297996710272016-07-04T20:04:58.824-07:002016-07-04T20:04:58.824-07:00thanks Steve, I will be posting as things develop....thanks Steve, I will be posting as things develop.
